Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS), a global life science organization, approached us to support a large-scale biometrics project. They sought to establish a new central European Hub of Biostatistics excellence in Basel and required support with candidate attraction and relocation planning.

Problems identified

BMS planned to create a central European Hub of Biostatistics excellence in Basel. Historically, the team were based in the Belgium HQ, with the senior leadership team in the US. After going through a period of consultation it was clear that they would not be able to attract enough internal employees to relocate to Basel, so required five biostatistics professionals from senior manager through to associate director level.

What was at stake

BMS risked the viability of their strategic hub in Basel if they couldn't secure the necessary talent. The project's success was vital for the company's regional growth and development.

Strategy and approach

Understanding the project

We held a comprehensive meeting with the onsite RPO, aligning expectations, defining search parameters, understanding process necessities, and detailing the essential skills and experiences needed across the team.

Team assignment

Capitalizing on our internal resources, we assigned three experienced members from our biometrics team to the project. Their familiarity with similar recruitment scenarios was instrumental in quickly propelling the project forward.

Active search

We identified those within our talent network and we proactively sourced new potential candidates. Our network, built over 30 years, was key to identifying professionals ideally suited to fill these demanding roles within such a tight timeframe.

Managing the process

We streamlined the recruitment process by handling shortlisting and initial interviews internally. This meant that only the most suitable, qualified candidates were presented to the BMS hiring manager, ensuring quality and efficiency.

Onboarding and implementation

We worked closely with BMS throughout the offer stage, providing necessary guidance and support. This meticulous involvement resulted in all eight final candidates accepting offers, exceeding the original requirement.

Results

Initially tasked with finding five individuals, we ultimately placed eight highly qualified professionals into senior roles at BMS, exceeding the initial requirement. In total, we put forward 14 candidates to the project, from which 12 were interviewed by the hiring manager, and 11 were interviewed at panel stage.

Impact

Our recruitment strategy facilitated the successful establishment of BMS's new central European Hub of Biostatistics excellence in Basel, contributing significantly to their regional growth and enhancing their global footprint.
